Warm Up:

  • shrimp out, post an arm (make sure it is to your side, not behind you), then scoot your butt to the posted arm
  • sit, post an arm, then scoot butt to posted arm, back and forth down the mat

Technique:

#1 – butterfly guard to sweep

  • sitting in front of your opponent, get into butterfly guard
  • your opponent will grip the bottom of both of your pant legs or your knees
  • with your chin tucked to your chest, lift them with your legs and lean back (their feet should be higher then their head)
  • shoot 1 arm diagonally through the space between your chest and your opponent’s (all the way through so that your shoulder is on their chest)
  • at the same time, drop the leg that is opposite of the arm your just shot through (right arm, then drop right left or left arm, then drop right leg)
  • your opponent will fall; as they do so, move your hips out of the way so that they fall next to you and you can take their back

#2 – butterfly guard to mount ((( need to verify the details of this move )))

  • sitting in front of your opponent, get into butterfly guard
  • your opponent will grip the bottom of your pant legs or your knees
  • pull your opponent’s elbow/arm into your chest to tightly trap it
  • without leaning back, lift their legs then lean to the side onto your shoulder, and at the same time, use your top leg to lift their leg and kick them over
  • get to mount

Rolling:

  • no time to roll today

Here’s a photo one of my teammates snagged during the adult class. We were practicing technique #1 that I outlined above. After a few comments from my big mouth, he had me try the technique in front of the whole class. When will I ever learn?
