Gi, Coach Jeremy

Warm Up:

  • Shrimp out, left and right

Technique:Β

#1 – Half butterfly sweep from half guard

  • you have your opponent in half guard, with your back to the mat and under hooks on both arms
  • post out your free leg and shrimp away from your opponent just enough to get your outside leg in to get butterfly guard with that leg
  • reap their arm (the side opposite of the leg that has the butterfly guard) and at the same time, use your butterfly guard and your hips to lift up their leg and sweep them to the side of the reaped arm (as your are lifting up their leg with your butterfly guard, use your other leg to push off the ground to help sweep them)
  • get to mount

#2 – Elbow crush from half guard

  • you have your opponent in half guard, with your back to the mat and under hooks on both arms
  • post out your free leg and shrimp away from your opponent just enough to get your outside leg in to get butterfly guard with that leg
  • trap their shoulder with your under hook by gripping their gi at the top of their shoulder
  • as your opponent begins to stand up, grip both of your hands together and use your under hooked arm to move their arm towards your shoulder/neck; at the same time, use your wrist to apply pressure to their elbow to turn it so that their elbow is facing up (their wrist should end up sandwiched between your head and shoulder; pinch your head and shoulder together to keep the wrist in place)
  • apply downward pressure to their elbow to complete the submission

Rolling:

I think I got about 3 or 4 rolls in today.
