Gi, Coach Eddie

Warm Up: standing guard passes, 10 times each side (I can’t remember the names of these passes so if you know, yell at me in the comments so I can update it.)

  • Pass #1 – You are standing with your opponents legs on your thighs; put your hand on the hip of the leg that is higher onΒ Β Β  your thigh than the other; then kick your leg (the one opposite of your hand that is on their hip) up to get it out of the way and push their other leg inside (these movements should be done at the same time); rub your opposite shoulder up their thigh (keeping pressure on their leg) to get your shoulder to their belly, then get to side control
  • Pass #2 – You are standing with your opponents legs on your thighs; grip between their calves and heels; push their legs forward and thrust your hips into their legs; then melt to crush their legs and throw them to the side; get to side control
  • Pass #3 – You are standing with your opponents legs on your thighs; grip their pant legs; swing one of your legs around the front of theirs to the opposite side (next to their hip) and at the same time, push their legs down to the same side; melt down onto your opponent; get the under hook and switch your hips to get side control

Technique: Using the lapel for submissions (I think I understood these techniques for the most part but as I write them down, they aren’t as clear. I’ll need some guidance on them to make sure I learned them properly.)

#1 – Americana with the lapel

  • you have side control on your opponent, with one elbow at their hip and the other on the side of their head so that their head is between your knee and your elbow
  • get knee on belly; with the hand closest to their head, cradle their elbow andΒ  hug it to your chest
  • with your other hand grab the front of their skirt and pull it to the arm that you have trapped
  • let the elbow go slightly so you can give yourself enough room to move the skirt so that it is over their wrist and you can grip it from the under their arm (keep their arm tight so that they can’t move it away)
  • using the lapel to control their arm and keeping their arm close to your chest, use the lapel to pull their arm up and then away from their body to submit

#2 – Baseball choke with lapel –

  • you have side control on your opponent, with one elbow at their hip and the other on the side of their head so that their head is between your knee and your elbow
  • with the hand closest to their head, cradle their arm for control and get knee on belly
  • grab their skirt with your other hand and remove the knee on belly; move the skirt under their arm to their shoulder
  • let go of the cradle and move that arm to grab the skirt from the other hand and pull it under their head
  • get knee on belly again to bait your opponent to move facing away from you, then grip their lapel at the neck
  • move your knee from their hip to their shoulder and then post out the other leg past their head
  • pull the lapel with your forearm on their neck towards you and down, and at the same time pull the skirt under their neck towards you to complete the submission

Rolling:

We had monster rolls today. The gym was hot and humid so breathing was as thought I was trying to breathe with a hot blow dryer in my mouth. I think we rolled about 6-8 three minutes rounds today. I feel like I got a few good rounds in and even though I wanted to die, I didn’t hate myself after rolling today (LOL).
