Technique: passing butterfly guard

#1 – option 1

  • your opponent has you in butterfly guard, your torso is tight against their shins to create resistance, and your arms are on their hips/stomach
  • slightly open your hips kick your leg out behind you to get them to move their leg, then bring your leg right back in to put your knee in place of their shin ( their leg that is still in butterfly should be trapped against your chest/stomach )
  • with the same side arm, under hook their foot ( the one that is still against your chest ) and the thigh of the free leg
  • with the opposite arm, under hook that side’s leg ( at this point, you have a bear hug like grip on their lower half )
  • tri-pod your body so that your shoulder and knee are on your opponent and walk your legs around to their side, let go of the 2nd under hook, get to side control, then let go of the other under hook

#2 – option 2

  • your opponent has you in butterfly guard, your torso is tight against their shins to create resistance, and your arms are on their hips/stomach
  • weave your hand under one of their thighs and then grip the top of their other thigh
  • use your shoulder to push the first leg into the second, then tri-pod your body with your shoulder and head putting pressure on their legs to keep them pinned down
  • move your body around their legs to get to side control, keeping the shoulder/head pressure on their legs

Rolling:

  • 5 rolls in tonight, 4 minutes each
  • I need to really work on getting out of someone’s half guard. I got stuck in half guard at least once with every single roll tonight. AKJFLAJDSFLJSDKVKDJSHGSHDGLNSDF
